Room with a ViewBy Rick Campos

16-Chen-+-Suchart-Studio-LLC---Yerger-ResNestled in the foothills of Phoenix, Arizona is a study of harmony between nature and structure. Designed by Chen + Suchart Studio as a homage to the iconic Camelback Mountain beyond, their innovative design combines architectural vision and a commanding view to achieve this contemporary masterpiece.

The exterior of the residence blends organically with the geography beyond. Upon approach, the entry greets guests with a savory taste of the beauty that lies ahead. A sense of calm fills the open floor plan of the main living area featuring sliding glass doors, which seamlessly unite the interior and exterior spaces. Virtually every room in the home offers a soothing view of the serene negative edge pool and the outlying foothills. The outdoor areas are as refined as the spaces within. A soaring canvas canopy gently envelopes the adjacent pool deck and lounge area with respect to the defining structure.

The interior finishes of the home are a juxtaposition of sleek materials, such as polished wenge millwork and carrera marble paired with industrial stainless steel counter tops and terrazzo flooring. The unique marriage of finishes is both refreshing and provoking. The master bedroom and study are centrally located, anchored by the peaceful water features of the home. Two luxuriously appointed guest suites located on the opposite end of the residence open to a private courtyard, which doubles as an extension of the interior fitness studio.

The heart of the home is the kitchen and dining area, which frames the phenomenal view of Camelback Mountain. The massive linear island runs the width of the entertaining area, which encompasses a space for dining and indoor/outdoor lounging. It is here that the barrier free architectural approach is realized most effectively. The wide open floor plan is uncomplicated and ideal for entertaining. Every aspect of this truly magnificent home echoes a welcome feeling of space and organic inspiration – a true homage indeed.
